Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Inclusion Support Staff responsibilities will include the integration of program participants with disabilities into a recreational program by providing one on one support where required. Inclusion Support Staff will prepare support strategies with an emphasis on age appropriateness and respect for individuality. The Inclusion Support Staff will act as liaison between the parents, participants, and staff in the form of pre-entrance meetings, updates, and problem solving to ensure all participants with disabilities are fully included in the recreation programs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide one on one support to a participant with a disability to ensure they are actively involved in program activities.
  • Modify programs to ensure participants with disabilities are able to participate in programs and be fully integrated into the program setting.
  • Work with the Volunteers to ensure they are included in the programs and have various responsibilities.
  • Communicate and interact with participants and make everyone feel welcome
  • Report to work in sufficient time to ensure the program is ready to start on time.
  • Provide a list of supplies/equipment needs required for the program to the Program Coordinator
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork in a timely manner (e.g., attendance records, drop-in sheets, list of hours worked, etc.
  • Ensure the safety of participants, facilities, and equipment at all times.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with delivering program evaluations to participants
  • Wear assigned uniform/name tag
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions prior to, during, and outside regular programming hours.
  • Maintain excellent public relations at all times.
  • Maintain good communication with staff and volunteers, facility users, and the Program Coordinator.
  • Understand and implement the policies and procedures of the Facility(s) and of the Community Services Department.
  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic, and well-groomed manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High Five PHCD Certification is required if working with participants ages 4 – 12 years
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR-B certification
  • Candidates must be minimum 15 years of age.

  • Background experience and an eagerness to work with children with a disability.

  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector check upon hiring.
