Please note: this role is located in our Denver, CO office; we work off a hybrid model and come into the office 2 days per week.

Job Description

Do you have a passion for data? If so, you are in the right place! We are looking for a Data Engineer to job the data platform team.

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for enhancing and maintaining of the data platform; the single source of truth at Tipico used throughout the company for reporting and analytical purposes. Daily users include Chief level, VPs, Product Managers, Analysts, and other Engineers throughout Tipico. You will work with the data engineers and work closely with Analysts and product team.

You will work with stakeholders to design data processing systems, develop data pipelines, both ETL and Real-Time optimized for performance and data quality, and troubleshoot potential platform and data issues.

Projects coming up include building a real-time reporting layer to power analytical, AI, and machine learning projects, provide faster insights to the entire business, and finally, power APIs, which brings range from bring data insights to our stakeholders to enhancing the customer experience of Tipico’s customers.

The building of a data analytical and data science workbench which will enable analysts, data scientists, and ML engineers to explore and leverage all the data assets of Tipico. To build, train and deploy statistical and machine learning models.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain both batch (ETL) and real-time data pipelines, data models and architecture
  • Ensure all data provided by Data Platform is of the highest quality and is delivered in a timely manner and in line with agreed SLAs
  • Assemble large and complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, including automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including data architects, Executive, Product, Data and IT team members from the beginning to the delivery of a project

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems engineering, or related field
  • 2 or more years of experience working with/on data warehouses, including data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ELT, and reporting/analytic tools, environments, and data structures.
  • 2 or more years of experience with Airflow and Python
  • 2 or more years of experience with ETL, ideally Talend
  • 2 or more years of AWS services S3, Athena, RedShift, and Lambda
  • Experience with Apache NiFi
  • Experience with Apache Kafka and ElasticSearch/OpenSearch
  • Experience in architecting, developing software, or internet-scale production-grade big data solutions in virtualized environments.

Desired Skills

  • Ability to learn new and complex concepts quickly
  • Proficiency in data model techniques and an understanding of normalization
  • Extraction, Transformation and Load (ETL) tools
  • Software development tools (Git, GitHub)
  • AWS services such as S3, Athena, EC2, RedShift, RDS, Lambda and OpenSearch
  • Languages: Python, Java, SQL
  • Strong problem-solving, conceptualization, and communication skills
  • Must be able to take ownership of projects with a high level of attention to detail and priority
  • Team player with a hands-on approach and attitude
