Description:
- The driver is responsible for ensuring the safe transportation of meals to Home Delivered Meals participants.
- Other duties as assigned within the guidelines of this position.
- Ability to drive to destinations within the limits of Kankakee County at least once per week.
- Pick up food from local caterer site and transport to designated participants along delivery route(s).
- Unload meals from vehicle and bring to participant’s front door.
- Perform basic wellness checks and make contact with all participants when making deliveries.
- Be willing to be on call during the week to fill in and drive for any volunteers who call off a driving shift.
- May drive up to five (4) hour shifts Monday through Friday depending on the destination.
- Must attend Agency training and mandatory meetings as determined by Nutrition Program Manager.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and education as required.
- Position is considered an at-will and requires a six-month probationary period.
- Probationary and annual evaluations of performance are conducted.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required for this position. All degrees must come from a regionally accredited educational institution that has U.S. Department of Education approval.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience driving a vehicle is required.
- Must successfully complete the Agency’s Defensive Driving course.
- Must have a clean driving record and a working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of a vehicle.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and constructively with persons from all racial or ethnic backgrounds, diverse cultures, family systems, and social backgrounds.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Passage of complete background clearance.

- A valid driver’s license, reliable means of transportation, and proof of liability insurance is required.
- Must be able to drive a vehicle.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to move or lift 40-60 pounds.
- Must be able to physically access delivery sites, including homes with stairs or ramps for entry.
- Must be comfortable with the possible presence of domestic pets at participant’s residence.
- Must be able to meet the essential requirements with or without reasonable accommodations.
